Free Design Advice
As a pool is such a large investment to make, you need to
make sure it's right first time. You are
the most important part of the design process. You need to think about exactly
how the pool will be used. As you will have to live with the pool for a long
time, a little bit of careful thought can make all the difference. Before you contact us, use the
links below to
help you start this process. Our brochure contains more information on this and
all other aspects of your new pool project. If
you want help with the design process, call us. Our advice, and your Indalo
Pools brochure, are free.
Everything you need to design your Indalo Pool
- Where do I put it?
- What Size & Shape?
- What is my Budget?
- How do I enhance the
value?
- Don't forget...
The position of your house in relation to driveways and
boundaries should normally give you an idea of the general area where a pool
could be built. However, there are several things to bear in mind before
you make the final decision.
- Exposure to sun during the day, in Summer & Winter.
The number of months you can comfortably swim will greatly depend on how many
hours per day the pool is in the sun. Is the house itself shading the
pool, or are there trees that will restrict sunlight at certain times of the
year. You may find you can move the pool a couple of metres and gain an
extra use. Bear in mind that a pool near trees will cost more to
maintain because of leaves.
- Privacy. Are you bothered about being overlooked by
neighbours? Is the best place for sun in an area with no privacy, so will
walls need to be built to provide this. Conversely, is the most private
site for the pool where there is not much sun, restricting the amount of use
the pool will have in Spring & Autumn.
- Type of soil and contour of the plot. You can
normally put a pool anywhere you want, as long as there is enough room to have
a minimum terrace of 1m around the outside. That said, if the area is
very steep or is solid rock, there will be an increased cost in construction,
sometimes as much as double the cost of a normal pool on a flat, soil
bearing site.
Once you have decided where to put it, you then must
decide what percentage of the pool area is water, and what percentage is
terrace. Many people have pools built without really thinking about this
relationship.
- How many people will be using the pool, and what ages
will they be.
- Do they want to play in the pool, swim laps for
exercise, or just go in for a cool down.
- Will anyone want to dive into the pool.
- If you want to entertain and have parties around the
pool, how many people do you need to cater for.
- How many sunbeds will you need, and in what direction
is the sun when they will be used
Once you know how big the pool needs to be, the shape may
well have been decided already.
- Do you want it to follow a feature of the house or
boundary, or is a basic shape just fine.
- Straight lines or curves. Do you want a totally unique freeform shape, like a lagoon with a beach entry, or does a more classical
design suit the space better.
- If you do want an odd shape, don't worry about it
costing more, as with Shotcrete we can create a totally unique pool for the
same cost as any basic shape. Let your imagination run wild and you can
create a stunningly unique environment.
You will need to know how much you can spend on your new
Indalo Pool. Prices can differ widely depending on what extras and
enhancements you decide to have. Rest assured that the money you spend
will provide hundreds of hours of enjoyment, and you will earn back more than
you spent if you decide to sell your home.
This probably the most important aspect of any pool. If
your pool will be used by children, you must make sure the pool is designed with
safety in mind. The position of the shallow end is probably the most important
aspect of this. If possible, it should always be at the nearest point to the
house.

To provide even greater protection, an infra red pool
alarm can be
fitted, so that you will instantly know if anyone has fallen into the pool. You
can also consider putting a fence around the pool terrace, especially if you
have a large plot of land or are in the 'campo'. This will protect your pool
from unwanted visitors, both animal and human!
Whilst most safety around a pool area is common sense, we
have produced a safety guide, which is included with the Pool Guide you will
receive when your Indalo Pool has been completed.
